Self Reflection
Hi, I'm Angelique. I will show you what I have learned and done through the year.
Two things I am good at are finishing my work on time and helping out other students with their work.
Two things I need to improve on are asking more questions to the teachers so I can learn more. I also need to improve on joining in our class discussions.
My goals for the next 6 weeks of school are to be more focus and to start studying for our grade 8 final exam, I also want to have mostly 90's for my marks.
Adult Response
  • In looking at your work, I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things:
-Helping me to remind how to do proportion, rate and ratio because I already how to do that.
-Good art work
  • In the last 6 weeks of school I will help you reach your goals by:
-Help you study

Term 1 Reflection

The first term of grade eight to me was fun and interesting. We learned many things that I never learned before. The first thing we learned was ratio, rate, and proportion. Mr. Harbeck made this easy to learn by making us do easy problems to harder problems. Every time we figured out a problem we had to use these, Simple Sentence (SS), Outrageous Answer (OA), and Math Information (MI). SS, OA, and MI made solving problems easier to find the answer. Throughout half of the unit, we made a video with our group, using Sesame Street videos. We wrote down what they say in the video and then we make a remake of us changing the words into rate, ratio, proportion. My group members are Anna Gomez, Jasmin Lacap and I. I found that really fun to do. This is why I love how Mr. Harbeck makes learning really fun. After each unit we always have a test. After this whole unit, we went on to Pythagoras. When we started learning about this, I got scared and nervous. When we started learning more about pythagoras, and the formulas, it made everything else easier. I really like learning and doing more about pythagoras and squaring. Squaring numbers is multiplying the number by its self (eg. 1x1=1, 2x2=4, etc.). The other part was square roots, it all helps with a calculator. In term 2, I want to get better by being more organized, and fixing up all my work. I want to have great marks in the next terms so I can have a high average.

Term 2 Reflection

Listen!

In term 2, I think I did well on surface area more than volume. Percent was fine for me, I didn’t really need help on this topic. I will do better in this term by finishing all my homework and practice solving problems. I’ll start reading the questions at least twice or thrice because sometimes I might be reading the wrong instructions then I will lose a mark for getting the wrong answer. I will start commenting on blog posts, because I rarely commented on some posts. I learned lots of things about percents, surface area, and volume. For percents we converted into decimals and then into fractions. For surface area, you calculate how much the surface takes up. Volume is when you calculate how much space the three dimensional shape takes. In the future, I really can’t wait to do algebra. I find algebra fun to do.

Thank You Ma'am Drawing Assignment

angelique8734.JPG
Task: What was I asked to do for this assignment?
I was required to compose a friendly letter using information from a short story.
Intent: Why am I completing this assignment?
There are several reasons I am doing this writing assignment. First I learned the elements of a short story. Next, we learned the components to write in a friendly letter format. Then, we applied specific story details and wrote in the first person as if we were a character from the short story.

Criteria: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
- Use proper friendly letter format referring to letter frame
- Compose the rough copy letter using specific details from the short story and write the letter from the perspective of one of the main characters in the story.
- Remember to use appropriate tone and audience for the letter
- Complete all steps in the writing process as set out in the assignment directions.
Next steps: Upon completion of this assignment I can now...
- I can now identify elements of a short story.

Dear Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones,
I am really sorry for what I have done to you. Ma’am, I just tried to snatch you pocketbook because I wanted to buy a pair of blue suede shoes.
Ma’am, I thank you for everything you have done for me on that night. You had the time to clean me and comb my hair. Ma’am, you were very nice to me, you fed me with a nice warming meal, lima beans, ham, cocoa, and ten-cent cake. Ma’am, I really thank you for caring like my own mother, I really thank you. Your words got me thinking, and it changed me. Ma’am, I thank you.
Once again, I’m sorry Ma’am. Thank you, it felt like I was loved, and cared. Ma’am, I have learned many life lessons from you. I thank you again, you forgave me, instead of getting me into a different world. I thank you, I never knew that would be your decision. Sorry for all that trouble, thank you, ma’am. Thank you.
Sincerely yours,

Roger

Two Minutes to Make a Difference

My group and I chose our topic to be about Japan Devastation Relief.

Our Big Questions were:
How can we get people to take action?
What is an earthquake and tsunami?
Where does this topic happen?
Who is affected by topic?
Who is involved in or affected by the quake/tsunami? Explain how.
When did this issue begin? Why did it begin? When did people start caring? Why?
What are the causes of our topic?
What are the effects of you topic?
What organizations are available to help? Who are they and what do they do?
What can I do to help? How can I make a difference?

Information:
Some key points that were have researched is that the earthquake started off with a 7.2 magnitude on March,9 2011
then on March 11, 2011 a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck at 2:46 pm (local time in japan). There was then a 9.1 meter tsunami. Many companies were affected such as Panasonic, Sony, and Nikon. More than 14,000 are dead.

Where are we in our project? When is it due?
We are done gathering our information, my group and I are now on the "media" part of this project.
We are looking for very effective music and images to match our topic and information.
